July 25, 2008: Sharon has been working to resolve the grant problems with the Russian Club. Attached is her memo to Jim.

Hello Jim,

Attached is the grant with the pages that I think you may need (11 total). The signature page/Club President changed because our presidency changed within the period. It took from 2003 to 2007 to finally get the money. Our club sent the $100 that was committed by the Izhevsk-Udmurtia Rotary Club in order to receive the funds. We have the funds in our Foundation (non Profit) account. Note, as per the award letter from TRF, the expenditures were shifted from misc items to additional supplies for computers and office. See the first page of the award letter. It lists specifically on the budget as follows: 4 Electric Ranges, 4 Washing Machines, 4 Refrigerators, Furniture for group homes, Computer Equipment and conversion software & Internet access. The total USD Equivalent is $12,600. Also, the Director of the Votkinsk Children’s Home is Nicholai Baranov. I believe he is still there. A little history of this project for your info: Our Rotary Club obtained children’s artwork from this children’s home in 2002 during a visit there with our Sister City committee. We returned to Utah where we obtained a donor of framing materials. We then matted, framed and then displayed them (around 25 pieces) at a Zone Conference later that year. We raised close to $5,000 from this group of art pieces that came specifically from the Votkinsk Children’s Home. We sold them all to Rotarians at the conference. We then used this money as the seed money for the grant. So basically, this money was raised totally from the artwork from this home. That is why we are so intent to see that it gets back to them specifically.

If you speak with Svetlana she can tell you how we expanded this concept with other children’s homes around Izhevsk. We awarded the other monies received from the sale of artwork from different children’s homes to the child artist themselves and the children’s homes. I think we dispursed around $1,000 to the other homes and children artists. We did this in 2003 when we traveled there as Rotarians to be there for the chartering of the 2 Rotary Clubs in Izhevsk. The Izhevsk-Udmurtia Rotary Club hosted and set up an awards ceremony for the children at that time. They have many photos and videos of this event, so ask about it if it is helpful.

As you can imagine we are anxious and grateful that we can finally see the grant being completed and benefiting at least the home that started the whole project.

Please keep in touch with me and let me know what else you need in the process. We definitely want some media over there for the Rotary Club. Hopefully it is still Izhevsk-Udmurtia, and I hope Svetlana can be involved. If not, Dr. Gordon, Igor and the others we know.

Please forward this to the Rotarians and RI as you need to.

Let me know.

Yours In Rotary,

Sharon Richardson

West Jordan Rotary Club, Grant Coordinator

July 25, 2001: from Sharon, Letter from Health Services, Jordan School District. "Please accept this check from the students and staff of Jordan Valley School, a center based school for children with disabilities. We are excited for our student's to have the opportunity to use the "Field of Dreams." Please build it they will come. /s/ Kris Johnson, Coordinator." A check for $100.00 enclosed.

The club had the concession stand and the West Jordan Demolition Derby, Sat June 28 and The West Jordan Rodeo July 3, 4 and 5. The club members and friends put in long hours and served the public well. The club made about $10,000 these 4 nights. The money will be used for scholarships and other local projects.

The club is working hard to complete the handicapped ball field. The project has been delayed because of problems getting the numbers together and meeting the requirements of the city. Doug and Stu are working with the city to complete the plans and put out bids for the project. They have come across other sources of funds. Thanks for all the work of Doug and Stu.

Penny Atkinson was elect District Governor Elect for 2010-11. She will be the first lady governor for the Utah District. The will also be the first husband and wife to be and have been governor.
